How do you obtain a criminal record check?

I’m applying for a certain program and it’s asking me to submit “a criminal record check (county level)” under the required documents section…

How/where do I get this record check? What does it all mean? Call me stupid but I’m confused. :(

usually the program will do it for you, it’s probably asking for permission from you to do a background check.

some places just ask you to sign something allowing them to check your background, however if they want YOU to submit one.

you can go to your local SHERIFF / POLICE DEPT.
and let them know you need a criminal record check.
they will FINGERPRINT you and get some information,
then about 5 minutes later give you a copy of your background
    check.

sometimes there is a FEE up to around 30.00

Go to your county court house to the records clerk…if you have no criminal history ask her how you can get a letter from county records that say that. It might cost you a dollar a page and a small fee.

You’re not stupid. But usually they provide the form and do the checking by taking your finger prints etc. Try you local police precinct and ask them how you go about it. But really the job is the one that does it.

Very odd that you are asked to provide a self check. Go to the county clerk/ court office, request the search for your records. The cost will vary. I am not sure what it all means either.

Most likely, you are not being asked to submit a criminal record check…

    …but, rather…

submit TO a criminal record check.

Go back and re-read the paperwork to see if perhaps you overlooked a key word.

If, in fact, the program you are applying for does require you to provide some sort of criminal history background paperwork, you should ask a representative of the program for advice on how to obtain what they are requesting.

go to your local police station. Tell them you need a police background check done on yourself for employment purposes.
Here you need 2 pieces of ID, it costs $20 and takes about 20 minutes depending on how busy the police are. Some places you have to call and make an appointment first

I am not sure why they would ask you to submit the criminal record check.. usually they ask you for your permission to allow them to run one on you. Otherwise, people could falsify the report. Either way, it sounds like they do want you to run a criminal record check report on yourself and submit it. There are two options to do this that I am aware of. First, your county may provide online access to criminal records but likely you would be required to appear at the county offices and pay a fee for them to run the report and give you a copy (I am assuming it is clean). They generally charge you around $20 processing fee.

The second option is to run one online. There are several services that allow you to run nationwide criminal record searches on anyone (including yourself). The cost is usually around $15 and you can run and print the report from your own home. I have done a lot of testing on these products and the best sites I found are listed on the the review site CompleteReviews.net. The exact link is http://www.CompleteReviews.net/criminalrecords.html .

If I were you I would check with the program to see exactly what they require and then go from there.

    Good luck!

Certain places/programs will ask you to provide a background check. It’s rare, but they do it. It’s happened to me too. If they just wanted her permission to do it instead of an actual background check, they would have asked for that specifically…

You can go to your local police station. Only takes a few minutes.
