It can stay forever, however you may be able to have it expunged (removed) if you were underage or go through the proper process.

You mentioned you were in California… did you know you can review your record YOURSELF and find out what’s on there, and how to deal with it?

Here is the Attorney General’s website with info: http://ag.ca.gov/fingerprints/security.php

You didn’t mention how old you were when this incident occurred, or how long ago it was, so I can’t help you there. I *CAN* tell you that the records are usually maintained for 7-10 years, after which they “age” off… and records are usually only maintained for FELONY CONVICTIONS. Often, people like yourself are ‘wondering’ about what info is out there, and it turns out there’s NOTHING on their record at ALL.

The other good thing about doing your own record review is if you have to apply for a job that needs a clearance, for example, you can be CONFIDENT that there will be no “surprises” during the hiring process.

    Good luck to you.

it stays forever. be upfront next time and explain the situation. but just say it was stupid youthful mistake and you have had no similar issues since.

Forever in the state of CT you can ask for a pardon after your probation/parole is completed succesfully. However a pardon is not guaranteed.

It is not a problem to remove a misdemeanor in California.
That state has some of the best laws for this.
Get a lawyer to file a “motion to expunge” in the county where it occured. Good luck.

If you were over 18 when convicted it stays forever.
