In California is it legal to do background criminal checks online?

I heard that you cannot use online background checks to get criminal records, only sex offenders? I was wondering because I know I done stupid things in the past, and I think not everyone should be able to get access to that, there should be a valid reason, not just hey i wonder if theyve ever been arrested or what not?….

You can legally do background checks in California for any crime. These records are public records. So, if you don’t want anyone to know then don’t do the crime.

If you have changed your life around then go the the Superior Court and ask a judge to seal your record so others can not see it. You can do that yourself or get an attorney to seal your record for you. Don’t expect a judge to do that if you don’t deserve it. And, even if a judge does seal your record, police officers can still see it.

any public information can be obtained online.

In some counties you can go to the court house web site, type in a name and get any and all legal action taken in the last 40 years, tickets, divorce, arrests, convictions, fines, probation, etc.

Criminal records are public records. Many counties offer the ability to search these public records online. It is legal to obtain a criminal record on anyone without their consent, unless it is for employment purposes.
