What is considered a criminal record?

I have one ticket and that is for not wearing a helmet. In Florida you have to wear a helmet if you are under 18(which I did know) It also applies to ATV’s (which I didn’t know) and we were seriously crossing the street and that was all. Anyways that was stupid but is that considered a criminal record? or do you have to be arested to have a criminal record

you have to be convicted in a court of law for either a misdemeanor or a felony arrest

You don’t necessarily have to be convicted in a court – if you paid the ticket, then you plead guilty and you were convicted anyway.

Exactly what is placed on, and what shows up on, your record varies by jurisdiction. The short answer is: depending on where you committed the violation, ANY non-expunged charge MAY show up on your record. In some places only convictions are recorded, in others it may include just arrests or even charges that have been dismissed.

There is also really no such thing as one, single “criminal record” that is attached to any one person. It’s mostly a myth. Various agencies – such as various local, state and federal authorities, maintain their own records and may or may not share the information with other agencies. Some states have central, state repositories, but submitting records to these is usually voluntary and not required by law enforcement agencies. There are also federal repositories, but again, there’s no guarantees that any charge you attain will necessarily end up listed there.
